Chapter 10: Applying Hypnosis To Fear Of Spiders, Fear Of Social Situations

This chapter looks at the fear of spiders and the fear of social situations to give you an idea of how hypnosis could help you overcome these issues. I have included scripts for you to use and follow. I want to stress that this is purely a guide, and even when I work with private clientele, I will adapt and change things depending on how the client is reacting in the session. I will also in the near future release short books on more specific phobias, so I hope you enjoy this part of this book. Use Hypnosis To Overcome The Fear Of Spiders

The fear of spiders is something that scares many of us, and fills most of us with absolute fear. The funny thing, as with most fears, is that fears are irrational; you will have noticed that I have mentioned this during this book. So let us offer a general exercise that you can do to help guide you to managing your fear of spiders. Remember intention is everything, have an intention that you will have a good session, the perfect session for you, and remember therapy is supposed to be enjoyable.

Fear Of Spiders Hypnotic Exercise

Step 1: First, write out what your beliefs are about spiders. Write down anything that comes to mind, for example, ‘I’m scared of spiders’.

Step 2: Now write the opposite of the belief you wrote in step 1. What we are after here is writing the opposite belief, and feeling how good the new belief feels, for example ‘I feel safe around spiders’, you get the idea. Make it right for you.

Step 3: Ok, so just relax and focus on your breathing in and out. Notice how when you take a deep breath in and a slow breath out your body begins to relax. Just feedback to yourself how much more relaxed you are when you focus on your breathing. Take several more deep breaths in and out, that’s it. Now imagine as if right now in this moment you were okay with spiders. The reason we work on the positive side first is we need to get momentum. If we try to change ourselves in a negative state, we cannot do it. It is like a plane taking off on a runway with the engines not on full power, the plane is not going to go anywhere. Therefore, when you think about the positive side, would you be willing to make a decision and see how it would be if you were okay round spiders. See how this problem has been resolved. Really, sense it right now. In particular, think what new thoughts you would have, and repeat those positive thoughts, really feel these new positive thoughts now, as if you were okay in this moment with spiders.
